services
What materials do you use?
We use only the best—premium acrylic paint for murals and illustrations, and enamel paint for sign-writing. Quality is at the heart of everything we do.
Is the work waterproof?
Yes, absolutely! All of our work is double-coated for durability, making it fully waterproof and able to withstand the elements for over five years, even outdoors.
Do you come to the site, or do we need to drop off boards?
We typically work on-site for murals and blackboards, but if you’re ordering custom boards, we’ll craft them in our workshop and deliver them to you once they’re ready.
Do you work outside of London?
Yes, we’re more than happy to travel! Let us know where you’re based, and we’ll see how we can accommodate your project.
How do you charge—by the hour or by the project?
We charge by the project. The more details you can provide—like the design, size, and content—the more precise we can be with the quote.
What do you need from me to get a quote?
We’ll need photos of the boards or space, dimensions, the location of the job, your desired timeline, and an idea of the design, including any illustrations.
If we have a large job outside London, do we need to arrange accommodation?
Depending on the location and scope of the project, we may require accommodation to ensure we complete the job on time and to our usual high standards.
Does the paint smell strong or make a mess?
Our blackboard and mural work is virtually odor-free. Enamel paint, used for sign-writing, has a stronger smell, but we always cover surrounding areas and ensure the space is left clean and tidy.
What happens after we agree on the quote?
We’ll send you a 40% deposit invoice. Once that’s paid, we’ll book in the dates to start and complete your project.
How long does a job typically take?
It depends on the size and complexity of the project. Once we have all the details, we’ll provide you with an estimated timeline so you know when to expect completion.
Can you paint over existing artwork on a board?
Not a problem! We’ll apply two coats of blackboard paint to give you a fresh, blank canvas, ready for the new artwork.
custom boards
What are the boards made of?
Our custom boards are crafted from exterior plywood or birchwood—both highly sustainable and eco-friendly materials that are fully recyclable.
Can I change the artwork on my custom board later?
Absolutely! One of the best things about blackboards is their flexibility. A couple of coats of blackboard paint and you’ve got a fresh surface ready for new artwork.
What materials are used for the fixings and chains?
We use stainless steel for all fixings and chains, offering recyclable metal options in chrome, gold, and black. If you have a specific finish in mind, just let us know, and we’ll find a solution.
What’s the maximum size for a custom board?
For a double-sided A-board, we recommend a maximum size of 1.5m x 70cm. Framed or unframed blackboards can go up to 2.4m x 1.2m for a single board. Need something bigger? We can make it work!
Are the boards weatherproof?
Yes! We only use weatherproof materials for both the board and the artwork. You can expect a lifespan of 3-5 years outdoors with regular use.
Do you deliver the boards?
Yes, we offer personal delivery or use a trusted courier like Addison Lee to ensure you can track the driver and receive your boards at a time that suits you.
Can I collect the boards myself?
If you’ve got a car or van big enough, feel free to collect your boards directly from us.
How are the boards made?
Every board is handmade by our in-house carpenter using locally sourced materials. We pay close attention to every detail to ensure top-notch quality.
Can you deliver outside the UK?
Depending on the size of the board, we can absolutely arrange delivery to locations outside the UK.
Do you offer custom frame colours?
Yes, you can choose any RAL colour for your board frame or bespoke creation, and we’ll take care of the rest.
workshops
How many people can attend?
Our workshops can accommodate up to 40 people. If you have a larger group, just let us know, and we’ll explore options to make it work.
Do you have a venue?
We typically come to you! All we need is a space that’s large enough for your group, with tables and chairs for everyone to work comfortably.
What if we don’t have a venue?
No problem! If you don’t have a venue, we can arrange to use a space we know in Shoreditch, East London.
Do you provide all the pens and materials?
Absolutely! We bring everything you’ll need. Just show up and wear clothes you don’t mind getting a bit of paint on, and we’ll handle the rest.
Do you supply the blackboards?
Yes, we supply all the blackboards. You can choose to hire them for the day or purchase them so attendees can take their masterpieces home.
How long is each workshop?
‘The Chalk Club’ is a quick, 3-hour workshop. ‘The Paint Club’ is a more in-depth 6-hour workshop, plus an extra hour for lunch.
Do you offer catering?
Yes, we can arrange catering for your event. Just let us know your preferences, any dietary requirements or food intolerances and we’ll take care of the rest.
How much time is needed for setup and cleanup?
We usually need about an hour before and after the workshop for setup and pack-up, depending on the size of your group.
Do participants need any prior experience?
None at all! Our workshops are designed for beginners and are all about fun, team building, and getting creative together.
What do we need to provide?
Just let us know the number of attendees, which workshop option you’d like, the date(s), and any specific themes or objectives you want to incorporate into the workshop.
